One of the questions I get asked all the time as a senior photographer is:
“What should I wear to my session?”

It’s a great question—and it really does make a big difference in how your photos turn out! So here’s a simple guide to help you choose outfits that look amazing and feel like you.

Bring a Few Different Looks

I always suggest bringing 3 types of outfits:

Casual – Something relaxed and comfortable that shows your everyday style.
Classic – A white or black dress (or a clean, timeless look) that your family will love.
Bold & Fun – Show off your personality with a pop of color or a trendy outfit!

Match Your Outfit to the Location

Where you’re taking your photos matters! Here’s how to choose outfits that stand out (not blend in):

Green Fields or Parks
Avoid wearing green—it blends in too much. Try white, light pink, beige, or even soft blue instead.
Downtown, School, or Urban Settings
Brick walls or white buildings make a great backdrop for bold, bright colors. Have fun with it!
Near Water (Like Lakes or Rivers)
Avoid black—it can get lost in the background. Go for light blue, pink, or white to pop in the photo.

Know Your Undertones (Yes, It Matters!)

Did you know that your skin’s undertone affects which colors look best on you? Here’s a quick tip:

Warm Undertones – Look great in summer colors like coral, gold, or earthy tones.
Cool Undertones – Shine in blues, purples, and jewel tones.
Neutral Undertones – Can wear a mix of both!
